So you think you can Burgundy?
Whether you’re new to Burgundy, a devoted Burgundy nut, a student of wine (or some other related masochist!) - there is one constant - that Burgundy is confounding in its simplicity and complexity. A place where terroir and site expression reigns supreme, yet where producers are worshipped as the most important decider of style; a region where a skilled taster can ostensibly identify not only village but individual vineyard by taste alone yet one which experts regularly get wrong when put to the test. This region has had numerous textbooks written about its specific defined characters, but equally producers are celebrated for being unique and exemplary.
In the tradition of Wine Sentience Burgundy events, we have selected a roll call of some of the region’s finest producers from different villages - wines both recent and with development (which apparently makes them easier to identify?) and with wines which are considered definitive. Known only to us, we will pour these nine wines in flights (both white and red) so you can put your palates to the test. Identify the origins, quality levels, age (or vintage) and if you feel confident, even make a punt for the vineyard and producer. Having fun with Burgundy has never tasted this good ;)
We will have fewer seats than usual to allow enough wine to play the game properly. Obviously, we can’t tell you what is being poured, but if you’ve been to a Wine Sentience Burgundy event, you know the calibre of what it going to be there! Stephen Wong MW, our resident Burgundy-addict, will outline the parameters and be there to guide (or mislead) you on your adventure of identification.
