A deeply illuminating intimate masterclass with Takaki Okada, his philosophies of organic farming without irrigation in Marlborough, and a beautiful lineup of Folium wines. From vine to grape to glass - everything he does is considered and conscientious. Delicious wines from a special site. ❤️ #nzwine #marlborough #sauvignon #pinotnoir #drygrown #organicwine #winegrower #vigneron

Pétillant-naturel: Few other styles of wine have the ability to freeze time and place in a perfect snapshot while seizing so much joy. Unfairly, pét-nats often get grouped alongside other sparkling wines and, contextually, often look the part of the black sheep of the family. But while time and process may be lauded in the regal wines of Champagne, it is a whole other set of virtues that attract us to the wines made using méthode ancestrale. These wines allow a chance for varietal characteristics to shine through, to reenergise the palate, and, perhaps most importantly for this event, they are FUN. .
We toiled over how to present these wines: a A masterclass, a bar takeover? Ultimately, however, we don’t want to overly formalise a style that creates so much joy but we also don’t want to confine something with infinite expressions to a passing trend in the night. Enter: Fête Nat. 15 wines from producers from New Zealand, France, Australia, Italy and South Africa made with varying grape varietals and philosophies. Come taste leisurely, ask some nerdy questions, taste again, and nibble on some bites. This Saturday, February 2nd at the Wine Sentience Hub - link in bio. Bonne Fête!
Kicking off #sommit 2019 with a welcome from the top of #tematapeak @hawkesbaywine #nzwine
Skin-Fermented whites; also known as Orange Wines or more traditionally Amber Wines; are an interesting interaction of tradition, revival and experimentation. In many ways, it’s easiest to think of them as proto-whites, but they’ve also evolved and changed - both in technique and style - over the millennia. Their traditional incarnation in the amphora wines of Kakheti, Georgia date back thousands of years. These techniques are echoed and adapted by some producers in Italy but rarely mimicked outside Europe. However, the softer aromatic wines associated with the Mediterranean have stylistically influenced the kind of orange wines made in the New World. On Tuesday 22nd January, join Stephen Wong - Wellington’s resident Master of Wine - on a masterclass exploring these iconoclastic wines. Pictured here (with a Georgian drinking horn!) are six of the eight wines including some absolute benchmark classics;
Pheasant’s Tears Rkatsiteli 2016
Franco Terpin Quinto Quarto Rebula 2015
Josko Gravner Anfora Ribolla 2007
Arianna Occhipinti SP68 Bianco 2016
De Martino Viejas Tinajas Muscat 2016
Millton Libiamo Gewürztraminer 2015
Cambridge Road Down the Rabbit Hole (2017)
Elisabetta Foradori Fontanasanta Nosiola 2015
