New Germany

  • Wine Sentience Hub Level 1, 104 Vivian Street Te Aro, Wellington New Zealand (map)

If you love German wine but find the labelling rules and classifications confusing, then this tasting is designed for you. If you don't know your German wines from your hock, your pinot noir from your spatburgunder then this tastings is designed for you, too. Germany has seen explosive change in both quality and winemaking over the past 15 years. It's now indispensable on any serious wine list or cellar.

We have the pleasure to host Dr. Andrew Hedley to demystify and unravel the intricate web of German wine classifications. In addition to being one of the foremost experts on German wine in New Zealand, Andrew Hedley is also the winemaker at Framingham, the man to bring the first pallet of natural wine to our shores and has a PhD in Organic Chemistry.

Eleven benchmark wines across Pinot Noir and Riesling, from Gutswein right up to top Grosses Gewachs bottles have been selected to illustrate the VDP - not just those who follow the rules but also those who break them. We will also host an open-floor session at the end of the tasting for discussion and questions.

Come along for what promises to be one of our most stimulating, in-depth seminars and taste a bevy of Germany's most delicious wines in the process.
