Nouvelle was our Wellington On A Plate mid-winter celebration of raw, fresh wines in August, 2019.

On August 8th, as a part of 2019 Wellington on a Plate festivities, the Wine Sentience team and a slew of our favourite organic winemakers take over Prefab Hall to pour a fresh look at the 2019 vintage. The wines, new to bottle, were the last fleeting glimpse of another Summer and harvest gone; a bright bit of joyful refreshment amidst the cold Winter days. Though we are far from the vineyards of Beaujolais, we are honoring tradition with fresh wines and fresh people!

Nouvelle is exclusively New Zealand organic wines made naturally by some of our dearest organic winemaking friends from Hawke’s Bay, Martinborough, Nelson, North Canterbury and Central Otago, including a Nelson wine made right here in Wellington City at the Garage Project Wild Workshop. These are specially commissioned and made to capture the 2019 vintage in a nouveau style of fresh, raw wine. Many are one-offs made in tiny quantities and unlikely to be seen outside of this pop-up. The majority are hand-bottled especially for Nouvelle; two of them are a single-keg from which we will be serving directly!

Given the nature of these wines, this will be the first, and most likely only chance to try them. While this list is not final, these are some of the wineries who will be partaking:

  • Kelly Washington Wines
  • Cambridge Road Vineyard
  • Don & Kindeli Wines by Alex Craighead
  • Garage Project Crushed
  • Halcyon Days
  • Amy Farnsworth
  • Carrick Winery & Restaurant
  • Mount Edward Winery
  • Alpine Wine Co.
  • Aurum Wines
  • Theo Coles

There is no entry fee and all of the wines will be available by the glass and half glass so you can slowly drink your way through the entire collection throughout the evening. The food will be provided by Good Boy Sammies, doors open at 5pm and we will close at 11pm or when the wine runs out, whichever happens first! Come celebrate with us at this mid-winter wine celebration of 2019.
